When a roof leaks I start by finding the real source, which is usually failed flashing at the chimney or a blocked gutter rather than a hole in the tiles. I replace slipped and cracked slates, renew felt and battens on small sections, and fit rooflights. On extensions I lay EPDM and torch on felt flat roofs, and I insulate lofts with proper ventilation left above the wool.
