I mend furniture rather than replace it: dining chairs whose joints have worked loose, bed frames that creak and sag in the middle, chipboard cabinets where the screws have pulled straight out of the panel. Drawer runners, cupboard hinges, split table legs and doors that no longer sit square are everyday work for me. Where a fixing hole is chewed up I glue in a hardwood insert, so the screw grips properly instead of stripping again.
